RE: women who tow

I also tow solo. I continued to tent camp after my husband died and bought a used 16' Casita last Nov. I went to Arkansas from Texas to pick it up and towed from Arkansas to Texas the first time I had ever towed a tt. Was I nervous? Yes :E. Did I make it? Yes.:) I was lucky to have my sister go with me and she was very encouraging. Yes, there were times that I wanted to pull over and just cry but that was after I had already made it through a very bad construction site in the rain. I have backed in only once but I know now that with effort I can do it if I have to. Earlier someone put the hint to put your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel and push you hand in the direction you want the rear end of the tt to go. My brother also gave me that hint and it did work.

RE: Photo of my Mom, Uncle and Grandparent's TT circa 1936

What wonderful photos and memories. I love to see the pics like this and see the not only the old campsites but the way everyone dressed for everyday living: white shirts, tucked in with belts, ladies in dresses or dressy slacks. There was "elegance" even at a campsite and they did not even think of it in those terms. That was just appropriate attire for being in public.

RE: Calgon water softener for the Geo method

I have not been able to find the Calgon water softener at any of the Walmarts in my area. Was told that the Calgon for your bath (remember the "Calgon Take Me Away"?) can be used as effectively.

RE: Going to TEXAS!

Galveston Island State Park is currently closed. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/parkinfo/hurricane/
Sam Houston State Park is in Huntsville and is about 120 miles from Galveston. If you are planning to work in Galveston, that would be a horrible drive back and forth each day. The traffic in both directions would add at least and hour a day to the normal 2 hour drive.

RE: SMALL TT FOR MY FOLKS

I will be 60 in Dec and weigh less than 90 pounds. I pull a 16' Casita Spirit Deluxe with a Jeep Liberty 2wd. I have no problems handling set-up and take-down. I also like having the bath with shower head. I have not used the shower as I camp at parks with shower facilities. I know the 17' is a little taller inside than the 16'. The Liberty may give them better bed option as you can make two twins in the back, a double in the back or a "king" in the back. They are affordable and you can also buy used. I bought used as I could pay cash and have had no problems at all.

RE: Trailer Mod's

I agree with Pete42. I do mods to fit my needs and wants. If I ever decide to sell whoever looks will have to decide if they like them or not. Since my trailer is paid for I will not have to sell before the next note is due at any point :). If I decide to sell, that person can put things back, leave it like it is, or add their own mods on top of mine to fit their needs and wants. I bought the camper for my pleasure not as an investment.
